EastEnders ramps up the heartache as Peggy Mitchell has bad news for son Phil

EastEnders' Peggy and Phil Mitchell

EastEnders fans need to grab a box of tissues for Thursday's episode because Peggy Mitchell, played by Dame Barbara Windsor, has more bad news for son Phil (Steve McFadden).

Doctors can do no more for the Mitchell matriarch and she has decided to stop her gruelling treatment in order to enjoy the time she has left.

A devastated Phil begs her to change her mind for the sake of her family. He knows the one thing his mum loves more than life itself is her family, but will he be able to make her change her mind?

Phil decides to rally the Mitchells to remind Peggy of the family she has - the family that still need her.

But will the Mitchells he reaches out to include someone EastEnders fans haven't seen in a long time?

We know Ross Kemp will make his long-awaited comeback as Grant after a 10-year absence for Dame Barbara's final scenes.

In a week that sees Albert Square change forever, Grant, Phil and Peggy Mitchell are reunited for one final time as Peggy says a final farewell to the Square.

The EastEnders stalwart, 78, is leaving the show for good, and her famous character will be killed off.

Dame Barbara made her debut in EastEnders as Peggy Mitchell in 1994.

Talking about his decision to reprise the role in the BBC One soap, Ross said it would be a fitting end for Peggy.
