Tom Hanks went out of his way to return a woman's university ID card after finding it on Tuesday.
The Hollywood star was walking through Central Park in New York and came across the college student's lost ID card which had fallen out of her pocket.
Hanks, 59, took to Twitter in an attempt to track down the owner of the lost item. "Lauren! I found your Student ID in the park," he tweeted. "If you still need it my office will get to you. Hanx."
One of Lauren Whitmore's professors at Fordham University saw the tweet and emailed her, saying: "You're famous!"
She had already got a new ID card but she still would like the old one back and to meet the actor. She said: "it's incredible. Only in New York would something like this happen. I would just like to say thanks for taking care of my ID for me and picking it up."
And she echoed one of Hanks' movie characters Forrest Gump, adding: "Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're going to get."
The star's generous move was perhaps inspired by his own experience, when a well-wisher went out his way to reunite the actor with his credit card back in March.
"A guy named Tony found my credit card on the street in NYC and returned it!" Hanks tweeted at the time. "Tony! You make this city even greater! Thanx. HANX."
