Kate Winslet 'didn't plan' on having two failed marriages

Star opens up about her relationships and being a mother

Kate Winslet has opened up about her first two marriages, admitting she never planned on getting divorced.

She has kept her cards close to her chest on her relationships to Sam Mendes and Jim Threapleton, but she has now confessed that her love life "hasn't been easy."

Gracing the cover of the Wall Street Journal magazine in her 40th birthday month, Kate - who is now happy in her third marriage to Ned Rocknroll - reflected candidly on her relationships and motherhood.

Having played out one divorce in 2001 after three years with Jim and one in 2010 after seven with director Sam, Kate now reveals: "Those are the cards that life dealt me. I didn't plan on its being that way . And f*** me, it hasn't been easy, you know."

Her marriage to Ned came along in 2012 and they now have a son Bear together, and he acts as a step father to her two others Mia (by father Jim) and Joe (by father Sam).

"No one really knows what has happened in my life," she adds. "No one really knows why my first marriage didn't last; no one knows why my second didn't. And I'm proud of those silences."

Focus on motherhood

And while body image has conversely always been a vocal topic for Kate, she now says that she is focused on staying fit and healthy because she is a mother, first and foremost.

She continued: "Now I view my physical self as an instrument that I have to keep going because I'm a mother, and I have to be as healthy as I can for those three people who need me more than I need for myself to be in a f***ing nude scene."

Kate is just about to make her return to the big screen with a role in forthcoming film Steve Jobs; another biopic about the Apple co-founder, the Daily Mail reports.
