Coastal erosion threatens Greek villages as rising sea level swallows the coastline

Severe weather in Chalkidiki in Greece has led to flooding and serious damage to some of the coastal villages.

The footage shot on Wednesday shows flooded areas and beach properties partly collapsed into the sea which has washed away the foundations and eroded the shoreline.

Desperate property owners have stowed piles of rocks to create water barriers in an attempt to stop the waves from continuing to wash under their gardens and houses.

The coming winter months are expected to bring more severe weather and flooding in the region.
