Brit di Resta to test F1 car in Australia

Updated

Scottish driver Paul di Resta will make his first appearance in a Formula One car at a Grand Prix weekend in Friday's test session in Melbourne.

The 23-year-old rookie will be taking over Adrian Sutil's place in practice on this occasion, with Vitantonio Liuzzi giving up his seat at the session before next week's race in Malaysia. The two drivers will then take turns to sit on the sidelines to allow di Resta his chance to get time in the car.

Force India is said to think highly of the young driver, who has already got one up on Sebastian Vettel in the past – he beat the German to the 2006 Formula Three Euroseries title. He has also raced alongside current F1 drivers Lewis Hamilton and Robert Kubica in junior series.
