Harvard scientist continues to claim Oumuamua is an alien probe directed to Earth

A Harvard professor who received major backlash after claiming the mysterious space rock Oumuamua was an alien probe is standing by his controversial theory.

Avi Loeb, chair of Harvard University's Astronomy Department, has given an interview defending his hypothesis that the mysterious rock is "a fully operational probe sent intentionally to Earth's vicinity by an alien civilisation."

"As soon as we leave the solar system, I believe we will see a great deal of traffic out there," he said. "Possibly we'll get a message that says, 'Welcome to the interstellar club.' Or we'll discover multiple dead civilisations — that is, we'll find their remains."
