New Mitsubishi Shogun Sport on sale now
Mitsubishi's range of five 4x4 vehicles has a new addition. The Shogun Sport is a compact seven-seater, set to compete with the likes of the Land Rover Discovery Sport and Skoda Kodiaq, and is on sale now, priced from £36,905.
Two trim levels are available, named 3 and 4. Both have a single powertrain option – a 2.4-litre diesel engine with 181bhp and 430Nm of torque.

The engine, which is the same unit found in the L200 pickup, is mated to an all-new eight-speed automatic gearbox and 'Super Select II' all-wheel drive, which switches between two- and four-wheel drive to balance efficiency and traction.
The engine will return an unimpressive 31.4mpg on the combined cycle, with high CO2 emissions of 222g/km ensuring an expensive first year's road tax. For reference, a Land Rover Discovery Sport claims over 50mpg, while a Skoda Kodiaq claims up to 56.5mpg for the most efficient engine choice.
Mitsubishi claims the Shogun Sport offers 'luxurious space' for up to seven people – we'd take that with a pinch of salt, but the folding rear seats should give a bit of extra versatility for families. Expect at least as much room as in rivals such as the Land Rover Discovery Sport – if not the luxurious third row you'd find in full-sized SUVs such as the Audi Q7.
Though it's not enormous, it is well equipped. 'Entry-level' 3 trim offers LED lights all round, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, leather upholstery and automatic headlights and wipers.
Higher-up 4 trim is priced at £2,000 extra, but adds heated front seats, an upgraded stereo system and a suite of safety and driver assistance systems.
