Main road in Birmingham closed after 'very serious' crash

A main road in Birmingham will remain closed on Sunday after police, firefighters and paramedics were called to a "very serious" crash.

The Force Support Unit of West Midlands Police said on their Twitter account that Belgrave Middleway, near Edgbaston, would be closed from Islington Row to Bristol Street "throughout Sunday".

It came after the force's main Twitter account described the circumstances of the incident as "very difficult and upsetting".

They tweeted: "All first responders at the scene are doing their very best in very difficult and upsetting circumstances. This is a very serious incident."

Police have yet to confirm any further details surrounding the crash.

The Hazardous Area Response Team of West Midlands Ambulance Service described it as a "significant incident".
