A man died at Manchester Piccadilly station after climbing onto the top of a train and being electrocuted on Friday night.

According to the BBC, he suffered "injuries consistent with electrocution" and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Horrified witnesses watched as the tragedy happened at 10.50pm and a cordon was put in place as fire, ambulance and police services arrived at the scene.

According to Manchester Evening News, services to and from the station were cancelled. Power to the lines was turned off and passengers were evacuated from the station.

British Transport Police say the man's death is not being treated as suspicious.
