Virgin aircraft loses part of wing after clipping Egypt Air plane

A Virgin plane lost a part of its wing after being clipped by an EgyptAir jet.

The flight was meant to take off from New York and head to London but had to be cancelled after the incident at JFK airport.

Passengers took to social media to share images of the accident, the damage to the wing, and the loose part being loaded onto a truck and driven away.

Speaking to the Metro, a spokesman for Virgin said: "Our VS4 flight from New York to London Heathrow sustained damage to the wingtip whilst taxing to the runway at JFK airport on November 27.

"Safety is always our priority, and all passengers and crew disembarked the aircraft as normal.

"We're arranging alternate travel for affected customers to enable them to continue their journeys as soon as possible, and we would like to thank them for their understanding during the delay."

According to The Sun, affected passengers were taken back to the terminal and some were put up in a hotel for the night before continuing their journey.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, one passenger, Vicky Compton, said: "It was very scary. I could hear the engines building up.

"The girl on the other side said 'half the wing was missing'.

"If they had clipped the engine it could have been a major incident."
