Rally drivers escape unhurt after car dramatically flips over
This footage shows the scary moment a rally car loses control over a jump and flips onto its roof. The car, driven by Saudi Arabian driver Yazeed Al-Rajhi and his Irish co-driver Michael Orr, was tackling stage six of Wales Rally GB when the incident occurred, and was caught on camera by spectator Nick Jones.
The Ford Fiesta RS rally car appeared to be making good progress before Al-Rajhi took it slightly too fast over one of the courses fearsome jumps. The car landed on its front bumper, but momentum meant it carried on further, and flipped onto its roof in the middle of the track.
Luckily, the low-speed incident did not hurt either driver or co-driver – both were able to crawl out of the wreckage, while race marshals swarmed to the pair's aid.
The damage to the vehicle was too severe for the duo to carry on, and they were forced to retire from the rally.
Wales Rally GB is currently the only British section of the World Rally Championship, and for the first time this year was won by a Welsh driver – local boy Elfyn Evans, who won with his co-driver Daniel Barritt.
