Hennessey builds 600bhp Raptor
American carmaker Hennessey has built a six-wheeled version of the Ford Raptor with a staggering 600bhp called the VelociRaptor. It has been designed to rival the Mercedes-AMG G63 6X6.
Underneath, it's actually a Ford F-150 that Hennessey takes to its workshop, which is probably more like a Bond villains lair, with extra madness. For a start, they add an extra axle, extend the body, add hugely bright LED lighting all round and then work on the engine.
This stealth-like six-wheel-drive is not powered by some monster V8 engine, however. Instead, you'll find a twin-turbo V6 under the bonnet. That might sound like a bit of a surprise, but its origins are the all-new Ford GT supercar – hence the goliath 600bhp.
It also uses a 10-speed automatic gearbox with manual shifting thanks to paddles on the back of the steering wheel.
Other changes include upgraded Baja-spec suspension, 20-inch alloy wheels with massively fat tyres and a generally beefier looking body thanks to flared wheel arches, chunky bumpers and impressive ride height.
It might not be as sophisticated as the Mercedes it rivals, but it does undercut it on price by more than £110,000 – costing £260,000, and that's quite a hefty saving.
We can't imagine it's terribly practical or very easy to manoeuvre through narrow streets or villages in the Cotswolds. But no matter where you went, people would notice you and you would definitely be making a statement.
You won't be able to simply walk into a showroom and buy one here in the UK, however. So if you do fancy one, Hennessey can sell you one from its showroom located in Sealy, Texas.
