Taken by the tide: Van becomes submerged in Essex
A van has been completely submerged in the sea after being abandoned on Southend seafront in Essex.
The Ford Transit was carelessly parked by a driver and left for a considerable time.
However, as the tide began to come in there was no sign of the driver and eventually the water began to lap at the wheels. Police can be seen arriving on scene before the water begins to rise up to the window line.
The coastguard and fire brigade soon arrive by which time the van is almost completely submerged. The firefighters can be seen working quickly to cut a hole in the roof of the van to make sure nobody is trapped inside.
There were no injuries, but the van driver will have had a nasty surprise upon returning to their vehicle to find it has been claimed by the sea.
