Peter says he monitored the motorist watching a film at the wheel for some time between Weston-super-Mare and Avonmouth in the early hours of Thursday.

He then contacted the police who have now launched an investigation.

Speaking to Somerset Live, he said: "I called 999 because he was all over the place and liaised with traffic police so they could locate him.

"He was that engrossed he did not even notice the police car waiting on the slip road for him.

"It was quiet and I had the lorry on cruise control, and I could clearly see there was a telly in there. I carried on and he came past me, and I thought sod this and called the police. I spoke to the girl in the call centre and she asked for the license plate.

"I kept him in front of me while I stayed on the phone to the police, hands-free of course, letting them know where he was."

Mr Westaway told Devon Live that the driver switched his tablet to sat nav mode when the police car turned on its lights and sirens.

Avon and Somerset Police said they were investigating the incident.
