There was a dramatic end to the day's racing in the America's Cup on Tuesday when Team NZ's helmsman Peter Burling lost control of his yacht in high winds.

With gusts in excess of 20 knots, the teams' futuristic multi-hull yachts were travelling at speeds nearing 50mph, pushing the boats to the very limits of their structural integrity.

The crash helped Great Britain's team to win their first race in a best-of-nine head-to-head series with New Zealand, part of a playo-ff series that will eventually determine who goes on to challenge the United States' Team Oracle for the America's Cup. Team NZ now leads the series 3-1 but face a race against time to be ready for the next race in the series.
