Iconic Coronation Street costume sells for over £4,000

A bidding war of thousands of pounds is underway for this famous pinny and hair rollers.

The props and costumes of Coronation Street character Hilda Ogden are all on auction.

As well as items of memorabilia belonging to the late actress who played her, Jean Alexander.

Her iconic costume, which was in her mother's possession, fetched an astonishing £4,200.

Sonia Hearld, Jean Alexander's niece, said: "Considering my grandma grew up in Liverpool, she'd probably never seen that much money in her life. And to think her old pinny went for that she'd be very proud."

Trevor Beattie, who won the bidding, said: "It's one of the great British television characters of all time, and represented by these items."
