Dozens evacuated after gas main bursts into flames

Dozens of people have been evacuated from their homes in Hampshire after a gas main burst into flames.

Images showed fire erupting from the middle of Reading Road, Farnborough, with the source apparently within roadworks.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said the evacuation was ongoing and urged those travelling to work and on the school run to avoid the area.

A spokeswoman said there was a "fire in the low-pressure side of a gas main and 48 persons have been evacuated to a local village hall".

There have been no reports of injuries.
