Would you like to live in one of these half-price homes?

We all get a bit of a thrill when we see that something we want has had a price cut, whether it's discounted food at the supermarket or a half-price designer sale.

And, at the moment, many house-hunters are enjoying this experience, with vendors cutting their asking price to attract reluctant buyers.

A recent survey from online estate agents HouseSimple.com revealed that nearly a third of properties currently on the market have had their price cut since first going on the market - and in some areas, such as Stockton on Tees and Aberdeen, it's nearly half.

What will the average property price buy you around the UK?

Some market watchers are suggesting that the property market may be heading for a fall. However, there are other reasons why a price cut might be made.

Many vendors decide to market their home at a slightly inflated price, just to see what happens - and then reduce it when no sale results.

Others find they have to move faster than expected, perhaps because they've found their dream home themselves.

We look at seven houses on the market right now that have had their price cut by about half.

Poole, Dorset

This five-bedroom property has been on the market since September 2014 - and since then the price has been cut by half. It's got a lot going for it, with a boathouse and swimming pool, and beautiful views towards the Purbeck Hills and islands. It's hard to say what's putting buyers off, but it might be the approach to the house, which features rather a lot of concrete. You can now snap it up for £2.5 million through Turners Estate Agents.

London N21

This Tudor style house has had a steady stream of price cuts since coming on the market a year ago, and is now half its original price at £999,995. It has plenty of space, with two of the four bedrooms having their own en suite, and there are four receptions including a conservatory. Outside, there's a studio in the leafy and secluded garden. Market Deeping, Peterborough

At the other end of the pricing scale is this two-bed park home, down from £60,000 last October to just £30,000 now. It has a 19-foot open plan kitchen/living area, a shower room, and a master bedroom with dressing area. Outside, there's a driveway to the side and an enclosed garden. Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire

When this four-bedroom house first went on the market three years ago, the owners were, it seems, pushing their luck a bit too far with an asking price of £650,000. Three months later, the price was slashed by nearly £300,000, and last week it came down even more. One downside to the property is the lack of a back garden, but the house itself is very attractive and in beautiful condition inside. It's now being marketed by William H Brown for £330,000.

The hardest places to sell your home in the UK

Grove End Road, London NW8

This flat in a portered mansion block is just minutes from Abbey Road and close to Regent's Park. It has a decent-sized bathroom and separate kitchen together with a good-sized studio room. It was first listed for a touch under £700,000 in January; the price was halved a week later, but it still hasn't had any takers. Find out more from agent JC International Property.

Bradford, West Yorkshire

This studio flat is priced to sell, say the agents - and at just £20,000, it's hard to disagree. Listed at £40,000 a little over a year ago, it's in an attractive modern building aimed at students with communal kitchen and study areas. And a good thing too: the flat itself consists of just a studio room and shower, and is less than seven feet wide. Narberth, Pembrokeshire

This delightful stone farmhouse oozes charm, with beams, an inglenook fireplace and a charming cottage garden. It has two good-sized living rooms, a lovely kitchen with range cooker, dining room, study and utility room. There are three bedrooms, one en suite, plus a family bath. Originally listed a year ago at £499,000, it's now down to £265,000 through agent Coasty Property & Estates.
