Ed Sheeran single Shape Of You step closer to UK chart record

Ed Sheeran is edging closer to breaking UK chart records as his hit single Shape Of You stands firm at number one for another week.

With a 13-week run at the top, the singer needs to hold the spot for just a few more weeks to beat the record currently held by Bryan Adams's (Everything I Do) I Do It For You.

The emotional ballad dominated the charts for 16 weeks in 1991, closely followed by Wet Wet Wet's Love Is All Around (1994) and Drake's 2016 track One Dance, which each reigned supreme for 15 weeks.

This week's runner-up single is also claimed by Sheeran, with his track Galway Girl.

His album Divide, already the UK's biggest selling record of the year, sealed its fifth week at the top of the charts, the Official Charts Company said.

Among other singles getting a look-in this week, Clean Bandit and Zara Larsson's collaboration Symphony comes in third, followed by Drake's Passionfruit in fourth and Something Just Like This, by Chainsmokers ft Coldplay, at number five.

Further down, Little Mix's No More Sad Songs ft Machine Gun Kelly entered the top 40 after jumping 34 places since last week to number 17.

Rag 'N' Bone Man's collection Human claims second spot in the albums list, while Drake holds third place with More Life.

New to the top five is Automaton, by Jamiroquai, in fourth position, while Take That's recent release, Wonderland, drops to fifth.

It has also been a successful week for Goldfrapp, who scored sixth position with Silver Eye and best-selling record both on vinyl and in independent shops.
