1. Add a splash of bright green
Bright green is the colour to watch this spring. Named the 2017 Pantone Colour of the Year, the fresh yellow-green shade is meant to represent refreshment and revitalisation. Whether you choose to liven up your walls with bright green, or add some "greenery" to your rooms with accessories, the colour is sure to evoke the first days of spring when nature's greens revive, restore and renew. Kitchen appliances come in a rainbow of colours these days. For a zesty and fresh feel, we like the Morphy Richards Prism Toaster in Green, £59.99.

2. Brighten up with butterflies
Butterflies are proving popular with a number of home décor designers this spring. A symbol of optimism and grace, they're the perfect way to give a room a burst of energy and colour. If your bedroom could use some cheering up, this colourful king-size duvet cover (£12.95), is the perfect choice.

3. Choose navy blue
Whether you choose to wallpaper a feature wall or give your kitchen table a fresh lick of paint, navy blue is the perfect choice for 2017. A sophisticated alternative to black, navy goes with nearly every colour scheme and is the perfect partner to white. If blue and white stripes is a little too nautical for your taste, try adding a few navy blue accessories to your home. These beautiful blue goblets (£41.87 for six) would look great against a crisp white tablecloth.

4. Fool them with faux indoor vines
Following on from the "greenery" trend, indoor plants are an easy way to give your home a fresh update for spring. If you're not known for your gardening skills, consider investing in a few faux plants. Artificial flowers have come a long way in recent years, and you can pick up some surprisingly realistic looking plants – though it's always better to pay a little extra for those that look lifelike. These faux succulent planter pots, (£14.99 for a set of three), would look equally at home on a bathroom shelf or living room.

5. Get tropical
Tropical prints were big last year and, love them or hate them, they're here to stay for 2017. If jungle wallpaper complete with parrots is a bit too brash for your taste, give a nod to the trend with a leaf-print cushion. This palm-leaf cushion cover costs £9.00.
