Greater Manchester Police have released CCTV footage of an attempted robbery of a fish and chip shop in Atherton on 11 February.

Police said the suspect 'pointed what appeared to be a gun wrapped in a plastic bag at the staff behind the counter, demanding that they open the till.'

However, the bent shape of the object in the bag had some questioning the exact nature of the concealed device.

Some UK news outlets speculated it could even be a banana, but it is not possible to confirm this from the footage alone.

Either way, the suspect fled empty handed.
