UK weather: Snow on the way after Storm Doris

Britain is set to suffer from snowy conditions as weather forecasters predict freezing temperatures in March following Storm Doris this week.

The Met Office says storms and snow are on the way for the next 12 days, with 55mph winds hitting north-west England.

Forecaster Mark Wilson told the Daily Mirror: "Hot on the heels of Doris comes Saturday's 50mph gusts in the north-west, with high rain totals and snow melt which could cause localised flooding.

"It stays windy on Monday, risking snow to lower levels further north.

"All areas are likely to turn colder by midweek, with the changeable Atlantic influence likely into March, with strong winds and rain at times, falling as snow further north."

Deputy Chief Meteorologist Dan Harris at the Met Office says: "Saturday will see further strong winds and another spell of wet weather, particularly over the northwest of the UK where the rain is likely to be locally heavy and persistent."

Meanwhile, a Met Office spokesperson told The Sun that after March 8, "it will probably be rather unsettled with spells of wet and windy weather at first, interspersed with brighter and showery conditions with some snow possible across the north of the UK."

This week's Storm Doris saw 90mph winds strike the UK, which killed 29-year-old Tahnie Martin in Wolverhampton on Thursday.

During the storm, a Flybe plane from Edinburgh crashed onto the runway at an airport in Amsterdam and flights were cancelled across the UK.
