Footage that emerged online this week showed the men wave down the motorist for 'speeding' before asking him to park by the side of the road and get out of the car.

The pranksters, who spoke in a Merseyside accent, are heard asking him: "Can you get out of the car please while my colleague searches you? Can you turn the ignition off?"

Confused, the driver of the Vauxhall Corsa was asked to put his hands on the top of his car before the fake officer patted him down and pulled down his trousers.

The prankster, seen wearing a black Nike jacket, then looks at the camera and jumps back into his friend's car and shouts: "F*** go, f*** go."

It is not clear where the video was filmed or whether the men were caught by police.

The crime of impersonating a police officer carries a six-month maximum jail term.
