Customs officials find 10kg animal parts in suitcase

Customs officials likely see more than their fair share of odd items in luggage, and it appears that random animal parts are among them.

Earlier this month agriculture specialists with US Customs and Border Protection seized a suitcase full of brains, hearts, tongues and other glands and organs.

They came from cows, pigs and chickens and while some were raw, others had been dried or cured.

A US resident travelling from Vietnam had attempted to smuggle the 10kg worth of pieces through Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.

The Dallas Division Director said: "These kinds of meat products are potential carriers for harmful diseases that could result in devastating effects on our agriculture industry."
