John Bercow 'strongly opposed' to Donald Trump address to Parliament

Updated

John Bercow has outlined his opposition to Donald Trump addressing both Houses of Parliament during his forthcoming state visit.

Opposition to the prospect of the US president giving a formal address in Westminster Hall has grown in recent weeks and the Commons Speaker said such an opportunity is not an "automatic right".

Mr Bercow said he was "strongly opposed" to the idea of an address before Mr Trump imposed his controversial travel ban, and he had since become "even more strongly" against it.
