Reviewers took to TripAdvisor to praise the hotel as "a wonderful place - heaven On Earth" and the "best hotel ever".

The second best hotel in the UK was named as Bishop's Gate Hotel in Derry, while recently opened The Gainsborough Bath Spa in Bath came third.

Last year's winner of the Top Hotels category for the UK was celebrity chef Raymond Blanc's Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons. The upscale Oxfordshire hotel is a foodie's paradise set in a typically English countryside setting and boasts beautiful gardens, including vegetable and herb gardens that supply the kitchen of its two Michelin star restaurant. For the 2017 awards, the luxury hotel came seventh.
