Flight diverts to Ireland airport so passengers can use toilet

A flight from New York to Paris was forced to divert to Ireland - so the passengers could use the toilet.

The bathroom facilities broke down on the flight with 90 minutes remaining.

Many of the 172 passengers needed to use the loo, so the flight diverted to Shannon Airport.

According to the BBC, engineers were on hand to fix the toilets when the plane landed at 7.30am on Boxing Day, and the flight resumed at 9.30, with a two-hour delay.

The incident occurred on an OpenSkies service, a subsidiary of British Airways.

Speaking to the Independent, British Airways said it was "very sorry for any inconvenience the stoppage caused, but safety is our highest priority".

Meanwhile, tragedy struck at Shannon Airport on Christmas Eve when a flight from Toronto to Heathrow was diverted to the airport after a 10-year-old girl suffered cardiac arrest on board and died.
