World War II Bake Off comes to North Yorkshire Moors Railway

Fans of the Great British Bake Off can experience a twist on the baking competition in Yorkshire this weekend by trying their hand at making a cake with World War II ingredients following the North Yorkshire Moors Railways' wartime-themed weekend .

The event is adding the extra layer of fun this year and those who take part in the WWII Bake Off competition will have the chance to win afternoon tea for all the family.

The event relives the amazing spirit and camaraderie of World War II with a variety of re-enactments, entertainment and vehicle displays along the line at Pickering, Le Visham, Goathland and Grosmont Stations.

From 10am through to 5pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, every station along the 18-mile North Yorkshire Moors Railway line will be transformed into a colourful variety of scenarios to stir a sense of patriotism, from child evacuees to local re-enactment troops.

In the spirit and camaraderie of World War II, visitors will be given a ration book themed guide and can take a journey back in time along the heritage line.

The ration book features an original WWII recipe for a steamed pudding and each platform will hide a luxury wartime ingredient missing from the basic recipe. During the event, families can search for clues and uncover the missing items.

Once home, bakers can make a cake with the WWII ingredients and share their masterpieces on social media using the #NYMRBakeOff hashtag for a chance to win afternoon tea at Pickering Station Tearoom and a family travel voucher.
