Tributes to man killed in Thanet shopping centre car park attack

Tributes have been paid to a man who was killed in a late-night attack at a Thanet shopping centre car park.

The man, named locally as 20-year-old supermarket worker Carl Gregory, received serious injuries at the site in Margate Road, Broadstairs, Kent.

Two men, aged 20 and 27, remain in custody after being arrested on suspicion of murder.

Police said it was understood the victim and the suspects were known to each other.

On social media, friends of Mr Gregory set up a memorial event, planning to hold a minute's silence before the weekend's Sunday football league kick-off.

His mother, Helen Godden, posted: "What a lovely thing to do. I am overwhelmed with all your kind words. My son was very loved and we miss him so much."

Playing football and the online gaming phenomenon Pokemon Go were believed to be among Mr Gregory's favourite pastimes.

Officers were called to the scene of his attack at 10.12pm on Tuesday.

South East Coast Ambulance Service attended but Mr Gregory was pronounced dead at the scene.

The car park was initially closed as part of the police investigation but has since reopened.
