Sometimes the world of freebies and discounts is less than practical. A voucher offering 70% off always sounds good, but when it's 70% off a spa treatment, is it really going to help your household budgeting? However, occasionally we have weeks when the freebies all reside down the other end of the usefulness spectrum - and companies are queuing up to give us really useful things for free. This is one of those weeks - where we have food freebies galore.

Free popcorn or crisps
The users of hotukdeals.com have discovered that anyone with the Greggs app has a free packet of crisps or popcorn sitting in their account. You just pick up your freebie in store and scan Greggs Rewards as normal. If you're not a member yet, you won't qualify for this particular freebie, but it's worth downloading the app anyway. You'll get a free 'welcome' hot drink (and a free cake on your birthday), and you'll be in line for a freebie during the next round of giveaways.

£15 of free shopping
Until 9 October, you can get £15 off £25 shopping with ASDA - if you sign up to TopCashback.co.uk. The idea is to appeal to new students doing their first shop at university, but there's no requirement that you have to be studying, so anyone can benefit.

All you have to do is sign up to Topcashback.co.uk, then visit the offer page and click through to Asda from there. You then need to spend at least £25, and the £15 will go back into your account within seven working days. You need to be new to both Topcashback and Asda grocery deliveries online. There's also a limited number of these deals available, so if you leave it until closer to the deadline, there's a risk they will run out.

Free houmous
You can get a free pot of Sabra Houmous from Sainsbury's at the moment - which normally costs around £1.90. The deal covers Sabra Houmous Extra topped with pine nuts or Sabra Houmous Garlic and Red Pepper. All you have to do is shop online, add it to your basket, and at the checkout enter the code FREEHOUMOUS. The price will then be subtracted from your bill.

Free biscuit bars
Sainsbury's has a second cool food freebie this week, This one is belVita Soft Bakes with chocolate chips - which are still designed to be eaten for breakfast, even though they are chocolatey. To get you to give them a go, you can get them for free if you shop online, add them to the basket, and use the code BELVITA at the checkout.

Free Google Play Movie
Technically it's not free food - but it is a food-related freebie. The members of LatestDeals.co.uk have spotted that you can get a free movie night through Google Play Movies, when you buy two promotional cans of Pringles. You just enter the codes on the website, and pick your film. There are loads to choose from, including 27 Dresses, Mr and Mrs Smith, Juno, The Life of Pi, Night at the Museum and The Book Thief.
