Man's face transformed by prosthetic nose fixed with magnets

Ten years after losing his nose, John Haley has received a prosthetic replacement which stays on his face with a magnet.

Mattie Singer, who makes prostheses for survivors of accidents and illnesses, learned about his appearance after chatting with him at a bar where he works as a chef.

Singer first honed her skills working on special effects in Hollywood, after graduating from New York University film school in 1990.

Magnets — on the silicone nose and on plastic that is glued to Haley's face with medical adhesive — hold his new nose in place.

After consultations and measurements, John now has gained confidence with his new appearance.

He describes his new nose as "amazing," "unbelievable" and "everything looks super real."
