Every now and then we all suffer from hiccups.

They can be annoying and even embarrassing, but harmless right?

Well, yes and no.

While hiccups are very common and not normally a sign of anything serious, they can occasionally also be a sign you are having a stroke.

When a stroke affects the brain's breathing centre, it can trigger a sudden, protracted case of hiccups, more commonly in women.
