Man charged over theft of Eddie Izzard's pink beret at rally

A man has been charged with theft after Eddie Izzard's pink beret was snatched during a pro-EU rally.

The comedian gave chase in high heels after the beret was taken during the protest in Whitehall, central London, on Saturday.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said David Czerwonko, 26, of Clitherow Road, Brentford, has been charged with theft.

He has been bailed until September 19 when he is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court.

Izzard, who spoke to a crowd of several thousand people at the event, retrieved his beret but the hat was then taken away by police as evidence.
