Match Of The Day's Gary Lineker gives TV strip show

Gary Lineker appeared on Match Of The Day in just his underpants, making good on his promise to appear half-naked if Leicester won the Premier League last season.

The former Tottenham striker opened the hugely popular football show at 10.30pm on Saturday night to present highlights from the opening day of the league, with Alan Shearer and Ian Wright laughing in the background.

The 55-year-old wore white and blue Leicester shorts for the first 30 minutes of the show then appeared back on screen fully dressed. He said: "It is a one-off and a sporting miracle that has landed me in my underwear."

Leicester is Lineker's boyhood club, and he scored 94 goals in 194 matches for the Foxes.

At the start of the 2015/16 season Leicester were 5000-1 outsiders to be crowned champions with bookmakers. A tweet from him on December 14, 2015 said he would "do the first MOTD of next season in just my undies" if the Foxes, at the time shock title challengers, saw the job through.

Fifteen minutes before the show started on BBC One, Lineker tweeted "this is strangely terrifying".

There was huge social media interest over what he was wearing and the reaction was positive, although fellow Match of the Day presenter Dan Walker joked: "4000 sit ups a day for 20 seconds on telly. Well played Gary Lineker. Were they pants or shorts though?"

Lineker then introduced Leicester's game at Hull, which the champions lost 2-1.
