Rio 2016: Rowing postponed due to the weather

The first rowing medals will not be won at the Rio Olympics on Wednesday after racing was postponed due to the weather.

The men and women's quadruple sculls finals were due take place at the spectacular Lagoa venue, but strong winds put paid to the action on day five.

World Rowing tweeted: "Racing postponed. No racing today. A new schedule will be announced soon."

Places in the final were also due to be secured in the women's pairs, lightweight men's and women's double sculls, men's fours, as well as the men's and women's eights.

The postponement marks the second time during the OIympic regatta that rowing has been cancelled for the day, with last Sunday's action also having fallen victim to the conditions
