'Harry Potter' Star Loses Case Over Tax Dispute

Harry Potter star Rupert Grint has lost a chunk of his personal fortune, after a dispute case over his taxes failed to rule in his favor, and the 27-year-old actor was ordered to pay £1 million.

This comes after his appeal against an HM Revenue and Customs block regarding a change in his accounting dates to protect his earnings from a high tax rate was rejected.

In her ruling, the judge said that Grint followed advice from tax advisers to change his accounting dates so that 20 months of his income would be taxed in 2009-10.

However this prevented eight months worth of income from being taxed in the 2010-11 year, during which the top tax rate increased from 40% to 50%.

According to the Mirror the Harry Potter star made a staggering £25 million from the eight film franchise.

In October 2014 the star admitted that he wasn't really sure how much money he made from the films, saying: "I've always known it was kind of 'there', and I've got quite an active involvement in stuff like that now, but I don't really know the exact figures. And I've never really wanted to."
