Attempted break-in at Wayne Rooney's £6m home as he played testimonial

Wayne Rooney's Cheshire mansion was targeted by thieves as he played in his testimonial match at Old Trafford this week.

Police said that Rooney's family home in Prestbury was hit by raiders as the striker, his wife Coleen and their three sons Kai, Klay and Kit were at the tribute game against his first club Everton on Wednesday.

But the thieves reportedly triggered the alarm at the Manchester United star's £6m property and fled.

Police descended on the house and conducted a full search of the local area but were unable to find any trace of the offenders.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said they were investigating and appealed for witnesses.
