Selfridges opens its Christmas store... 145 days before Christmas

Some people insist that Christmas songs shouldn't be played before December while others may leave it until Christmas Eve to decorate their tree, but others don't hold back.

Selfridges in London has outdone itself this year by becoming the first department store in the world to launch their Christmas shop, on the first day of August.

There may be 145 shopping days left before Father Christmas arrives, but that hasn't stopped them from decking the halls already.

So why have they decided to open now and is there really a demand for baubles in August?

They certainly seem to think so at Selfridges!

Clare Sprigings is a Christmas Buyer at Selfridges, she said: "At Selfridges we have tonnes and tonnes of visitors every year come over in the summer, so if they don't come back before Christmas the like to pick up souvenirs for their tree."

She added: "We really feel that decorating your tree is like telling a story and it's a diary of all the places you've been over the year."

Clare explained that the store is currently stocking more than 50,000 baubles and they expect to have sold 75,000 by the end of the season.
