Ask restaurant servers what a good tip is and answers will vary, but likely all will agree getting over a million dollars on a roughly £100 bill is truly phenomenal.

A man dining in Inverurie, Scotland almost left such a gratuity. When the time came to pay the check, the man asked to enter the amount into the card machine himself.

The transaction was declined, and restaurant owner Abdul Wahid called the bank, answered a series of questions, and approval was given.

When the machine was handed back to Wahid, he realized the diner had entered a tip equal to about £1,006,082.04.

Abdul Wahid told the Evening Express: "I then had to phone the bank for him and I answered all of the questions and they then gave me the confirmation code.

"At this time he still had the card machine so I never saw the amount he had typed in. But 10 minutes later I took the machine and looked at it and I just said 'oh my god what's happened, what have you done my friend'."

The diner was informed and quickly adjusted the transaction, leaving a gratuity more befitting his tab!
