Woman's body found in ditch after hit-and-run crash

Police are appealing for witnesses to a fatal hit-and-run collision after a woman was found dead in a ditch.

A member of the public called police following the discovery of the body in Trewiston Lane in St Minver, Wadebridge, Cornwall, shortly before 4.45am on Tuesday.

Devon and Cornwall Police believe the 45-year-old local woman may have been hit by a vehicle.

A force spokesman said: "The road has been closed and officers from the Serious Collisions Investigation Unit are carrying out a forensic examination of the scene.

"The woman's next of kin has been informed.

"Anyone who witnessed a collision between a pedestrian and a vehicle is asked to email 101@dc.police.uk or call 101, quoting reference 81 of 19 July."
