Singer Susan Boyle claims she was "treated like an animal" by police during an airport meltdown at Heathrow earlier this year.

The 55-year-old was removed from the British Airways lounge after allegedly arguing with staff.

Speaking to the Scottish Sun, she said: "My Asperger's meant that I was extremely anxious and upset at Heathrow that day."

She said she doesn't remember what the argument was about but apologies for her part.

"But what I would say is the airport just thought, 'she's distressed and disruptive, let's do something with her'".

Boyle added: "The police shouldn't have surrounded me like an animal. It made me frightened."

The Britain's Got Talent star was flying home to Scotland with her PA when the incident happened.

A Met Police spokesman told MailOnline: "Police were called at around 13:20hrs on Monday, 25 April to a lounge in Terminal 5, Heathrow to reports of a distressed woman.

"Officers attended and spoke with the woman, amid concerns for her health and wellbeing."

She was escorted out of the terminal and was later driven home to Scotland.
