Andy Murray takes on Liam Broady at Wimbledon in all-British showdown

Updated

Wimbledon is set for an all-British showdown as Andy Murray takes on Liam Broady on Centre Court.

Murray has never before faced Broady, who is ranked 234th in the world and was given a wild card to enter the tournament.

But it may not be good news for hundreds of fans who have camped out to see the world number two play, as rain clouds are expected to make their way over SW19 by the afternoon.

The top Briton follows Serena Williams, who is first up on Centre Court at 1pm.

The day's action will also see the number one British ladies' player Jo Konta take on Monica Puig from Puerto Rico, and British men's number two Aljaz Bedene go up against Frenchman Richard Gasquet.

Heather Watson will also take to the grass, playing German Annika Beck last on court two.

It is not yet known what famous faces will turn up to see Murray begin his quest for a second Wimbledon title, but Monday saw Sir Cliff Richard and Pippa Middleton cheering on the players.

Sir Cliff Richard was among a host of famous faces who turned up to watch play on the opening day of Wimbledon on Monday.

The singer, 75, wore a cream summer suit to the Championship and was spotted near the Royal Box.

A regular at SW19, the entertainer is not believed to have been seen at the tournament last year - reportedly saying that he did not want to detract attention from the tennis after historical sex abuse allegations were made against him.

Sir Cliff, who was in the crowd to see Novak Djokovic play Britain's James Ward, always strongly denied the allegations. Earlier this month, South Yorkshire Police announced he would face no further action over the claims.

Pippa Middleton was also in attendance, dressed in a cream floral printed dress with a ruffle shoulder detail and dipped hem. She sat with her brother James and enjoyed the tennis through sunglasses.

A keen tennis fan, the Duchess of Cambridge's sister is a regular at the Championship - making appearances ever since the royal wedding in 2011. Also present were Sir Jackie and Lady Stewart and actress Rebel Wilson.
