'Dangerous' cyclist slammed for holding onto speeding tram

A cyclist has been criticised after he was caught on camera clinging onto a speeding tram in Manchester.

Transport bosses slammed the "dangerous" cyclist who was filmed hitching a ride along Droylsden Road towards Ashton-under-Lyne.

The footage, which was filmed by a passenger on a Metrolink service, shows the moment the man grabs onto the side of the moving vehicle.

As the tram gains speed, he continues to hold onto it and travels along with the vehicle.

He eventually pedals off after almost a mile.

Metrolink director Peter Cushing told Manchester Evening News: "This type of behaviour is not only mindless, it is exceptionally dangerous and could very easily lead to a serious injury or a life threatening accident – as well as jeopardising other road users' safety.

"I would ask any passengers who spot this type of activity to report it to the driver immediately and urge any cyclists considering such a foolish course of action to think very seriously about the potential outcome."
