Stolen stamp worth hundreds of thousands found

On Thursday a rare "Inverted Jenny" stamp stolen 61 years ago is set to be officially returned to the library that owns it, by US authorities.

Printed in 1918, the 24-cent US stamp features a plane, mistakenly printed upside-down.

The office of Manhattan US Attorney Preet Bharara said it will be turned over to the American Philatelic Research Library during the World Stamp Show in New York.

The stamp is considered the most famous in the United States, and it was one of four stolen from an exhibition in 1955.

The library has said the recovered stamp could be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

According to NBC the stamp was recovered when Keelin O'Neill handed it over to an auction house.

The man inherited the pricey stamp from his grandfather two months ago and although he waived claims to it because it was stolen, he was given a $50,000 reward for handing it in.

This isn't the first of the stamps to resurface however, one reappeared in Chicago in 1977, another was found in New York in 1981 too.
