A Royal Navy officer is set to stand trial charged with the rape of a woman at Britannia Royal Naval College.

Sub Lieutenant Samuel Mitchell, 26, faces two counts of rape at the trial before a panel of senior officers and a judge advocate at Portsmouth Naval Base court martial centre.

The offences are alleged to have taken place at the main training base for officer cadets in Dartmouth, Devon.

The college is the sole centre for Royal Navy officer training which has been run at the site since 1863.
