A motorcyclist died and a fellow rider and a course marshal were flown to hospital after a crash at the pre-TT races on the Isle of Man.

Organisers Southern 100 Racing said Dean Martin, 58, was killed in the collision on the Billown Course during the 850cc Classic practice session on Friday evening.

Mr Martin, from Santon, Isle of Man, was a long-time competitor on the Billown Course on classic and modern machines and leaves a partner, Hilary, they added.

The crash at Billown Dip also involved a Liverpool competitor, Jamie O'Brien, and two course marshals.

Southern 100 Racing said Mr O'Brien was in a serious but stable condition at Aintree Hospital in Liverpool.

A course marshal is also receiving treatment at Aintree for head injuries, while a second marshal was treated for ankle and shoulder injuries at Noble's Hospital on the island.

In a statement, the organisers said: "Southern 100 Racing extends it sincere condolences to family, relatives and friends at this very sad time.

"The organisers are carrying out a full investigation into the circumstances of the incident. The coroner of inquests has been informed."
