A group of 28 suspected migrants have been discovered in a lorry in Portsmouth.

Immigration officers attended after being called by police at around 10am on Saturday morning.

The driver of the lorry was arrested on suspicion of facilitating illegal entry into the UK.

The men and women who were found inside the HGV were given medical treatment by paramedics.

They were then taken into custody by the Border Force on suspicion of being in the country illegally and face deportation if they have no right to remain in Britain.

A spokeswoman for South Central Ambulance Service said two ambulances and a specialist hazardous area response team were sent to the scene in Walton Road at 9.45am.

All 28 people were assessed at the scene and one man was taken to the nearby Queen Alexandra Hospital with a "medical complaint".
