Two men have died and several other people have been seriously hurt in a three-car crash.

The accident involving a black BMW, a white Honda Civic and a silver Honda Civic happened on the A57 Snake Pass in Derbyshire at about 9.50pm on Sunday.

A man driving the BMW was pronounced dead at Sheffield's Northern General Hospital, while three passengers were injured, two of them seriously, Derbyshire Police said.

The male driver of the white Honda died at the scene and a male passenger was also taken to hospital in Sheffield after suffering serious injuries.

The man driving the silver Honda was badly hurt and remains in hospital.

Following the crash, two cars behind were forced to brake heavily, according to police, leading to a separate collision in which nobody was hurt.

The road was shut overnight but has since reopened.

A police spokesman said the force wanted to speak to anyone who saw the BMW driving in the area ahead of the crash.

Anyone with information is urged to contact officers on 101, quoting incident number 732 of May 15.
