You can now check if you're in the Panama Papers

Soon the public will be able to search the Panama Papers for specific business executives or politicians that allegedly kept shell companies.

The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists is releasing a searchable database that shows the ties between the world's rich and offshore entities.

The Panama Papers, which were released at the beginning of April, are a collection of 11.5 million leaked documents from Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca, showing how the powerful use offshore tax havens to hide their wealth.

The database will detail the names of owners, directors or shareholders of offshore companies, the names and addresses of those offshore companies, and agencies that help run those companies.

In other words, you'll be able to see who was involved with what company.

The Panama Papers have been described as the world's biggest data leak. The data shows how some of the world's rich and famous have been taking advantage of offshore tax initiatives.

A number of high profile people have suffered as a result of the Panama Papers and Iceland's prime minister, Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson stepped down from his position after it was revealed he'd hidden money offshore.

Just last month we looked at a number of British Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies that are tax havens.

This included the Channel Islands, Isle of Man, Cayman Islands and the British Virgin Islands.
