PNG claim landmark win, Samoa beat Tonga

Papua New Guinea came from behind on Saturday to beat Fiji 24-22 in Sydney and claim their first win on foreign soil since 2000.

In the first part of a double-header involving Pacific nations, PNG were grateful to two tries from Watson Boas and four goals from his brother, Ase, as they battled to victory.

Fiji led 16-8 at the interval and wing Etuate Qionimacawa went on to complete a hat-trick on Test debut, only for his efforts to prove in vain.

Saturday's second game at Parramatta's Pirtek Stadium saw Samoa beat Tonga 16-8.

Antonio Winterstein, Ricky Leutele and Matthew Wright went over for Samoa, the latter sealing victory with a score from dummy half late on.
